The pathology laboratory at the VieCuri Medical Center in Venlo will be remodeled in 2021. SPS Products was allowed to realize the project design and has been providing annual maintenance ever since. The space had to be laid out as practically as possible: "Left or right, below or above, everything is possible at SPS, which is nice to work with," Marco van Beers says.
Behind the scenes
Pathology is a field that, from the patient’s eye, takes place mostly behind the scenes, but has a crucial role in medical research. Marco van Beers, Pathology Manager at VieCuri, can no longer be found behind the cutting table himself, but he manages the 23 employees in the Clinical Pathology Department. The team includes pathologists, analysts and administrative staff, each of whom has an important role in making a diagnosis for a patient.
At the cutting table or behind the microscope
The histology department, where tissue is examined, consists of a reception area and a cutting area. There is also a cytology department in Venlo, where research is done on cells: “Here the colleagues are mainly behind a microscope. Next to it is a room for administration, this is where we process the results, for example,” Marco explains. A comprehensive and modern laboratory which was custom assembled by SPS.
Mobile cabinets
In setting up the facility, there was a requirement for a large square footage of wet archive, to store materials. Stefan from SPS says, “To save space, we proposed mobile cabinets in the design. We like to think along with you to arrange everything as optimally as possible. As many as seven versions of design drawings were passed in order to arrange everything as desired. A great challenge with a result we are proud of!”.
Custom
According to Marco, the customization provided by SPS is a big plus. ”With our contact Stefan you can have a good conversation and they really listen to you,” said Marco. “It’s nice that a table is height adjustable, but we also want to keep this table as clean as possible. Then we indicate, for example, where an extra drawer or a holder for gloves would be handy. Left or right, below or above, everything is possible at SPS, which is nice to work with.”
Real service
Even if something does not go according to plan, the contact remains good. SPS then thinks along in a suitable solution, they keep appointments and make sure everything is taken care of, it is pleasant working together that way,” Marco says. The department gets a maintenance check from SPS every year anyway. “Stefan then contacts us early so this can be scheduled in time.” Here’s to many more years of this successful collaboration!
