A pleasant work space is crucial, so too for the staff at the Pathological Anatomy Department of the University Hospital of Antwerp (UZA). Together with SPS Products, a new layout for the department was realized in 2023. ''SPS thinks with you and provides a facility that suits our needs,'' said Siegrid Pauwels, chief laboratory technician in the pathological anatomy department.
Many years of experience
Siegrid has been working in pathology and at the hospital in Antwerp for 30 years. She has promoted herself to chief lab technician and manages the team of about 25 employees in the Pathological Anatomy Department, ”but if it’s very busy, I can still sometimes be found behind one of the tables,” Siegrid says. The department is divided into several rooms. There is a reception desk, a room for histology, and a room where other areas of expertise, such as molecular diagnostics, are performed.
Two at one table
Several years ago, the department needed expansion and that was when SPS Products came into the picture. Among other things, two new macroscopy tables were needed; the old tables were in need of replacement. The Erasmus Medical Center in Rotterdam had recently received new tables from SPS and Siegrid was allowed to come there to take a look. “That was a positive experience, in addition there was a preference for a wide table to work with two people. It was no problem for SPS to custom make this for us,” Siegrid said. It was also chosen to add color to the cabinets, “After all, we spend a lot of time there, and adding a pop of color makes for a pleasant work environment.”
A strong (color) sample
During the project, SPS visited the department several times. To get an impression of the space and its dimensions but also to show color swatches so that the employees in the department could get a good idea of the new furnishings. SPS made two proposals for the new layout of the department. Siegrid: “The fact that SPS also visits us on location to discuss the plans works very well. They listen to our wishes and come up with ideas to implement this. Together we arrived at a suitable layout”.
Praising words
Siegrid adds how she experienced the cooperation: “The biggest advantage of SPS is that you can pass on your wishes to them and they look at how they can implement them. They really deliver customization, think with you and they are very flexible.”
