SPS Products realized for a University Medical Center a high-quality refrigeration and freezing installation for the storage of a total of 120 corpses, divided between refrigeration cells, freezer cells and stainless steel bins. These bodies are used for medical education and research.

From A to Z
It was a complex project within the anatomy department of a teaching hospital, with a CO₂ booster plant at its technical heart. This was fully equipped for sustainability and energy efficiency and placed in a separate, purpose-built water-cooled engine room.

Unburdening
SPS Products coordinated the project from A to Z, with Veld Koeltechniek as partner for the refrigeration and freezer units and Kuunders Technoworks for the elevator system developed. We also took care of various deliveries of custom stainless steel, mostly in stainless steel 316. Project supervision was intensive, with a tight construction schedule of only ten weeks. During this period we worked closely with various parties; from construction and electrical engineering to elevators, ceilings and floors. Everything had to be coordinated down to the last millimeter. Thanks to this cooperation and solution-oriented approach, the implementation went very well – a Champions League-level project.
Future maintenance has also been considered: the installation is linked to a control room for continuous monitoring, and the hospital uses a maintenance contract for maximum reliability.
During the construction period, we realized a temporary storage of refrigeration and freezer cells on the outside grounds of the hospital, so that work could continue undisturbed during the renovation. In addition, we removed the old cells and racking, allowing SPS Products to provide total relief for the academic center.

A future-proof department
A similar CO₂ installation has since been rolled out at other hospitals – a nice follow-up to this successful project. Great thanks go to all parties involved whose commitment, knowledge and cooperation contributed to the realization of a future-proof department that the UMC can be proud of.
