A future-proof solution for the layout of the anatomy department at UMC Utrecht. That's where SPS Products and Veld Koeltechniek found each other. Together they worked on sustainable refrigeration systems for the remodeling of an anatomy department.

Ahead

The fact that Veld is ahead in the field of natural refrigerants was an important reason for Stefan to enter into a partnership. The commercial director of the company, which is a specialist in pathology, autopsy room and mortuary equipment, was looking for a partner for a project. The company was awarded the second part of the remodeling of the anatomy department. “For this project, we were looking for a party that specializes in sustainable CO2 systems,” Stefan explains. “Veld has been a pioneer in that field for years and has a lot of knowledge and know how.”

Sustainable solution

Field’s CO2 systems comply with the F-gases regulation. “That makes it a future-proof and reliable solution,” says Pascal te Bogt, account manager at Veld Koeltechniek. Thanks to heat recovery, the heat extracted from the cells can be reused elsewhere. “And because we connect the cooling systems to our control room, we can monitor them 24/7. This keeps energy consumption and operating costs low.”

Partner with experience
Two years ago, SPS started the project by holding initial discussions with the hospital. Late last year, thanks to SPS, Field also hooked up. “For us it was new for a while, getting used to it and of course waiting to see how the partnership forms,” says Pascal. A good click and cooperation quickly followed; “It is nice to have a partner who is the absolute specialist in this world and brings with him a lot of knowledge and experience” said SPS.

A trusted advisor
SPS Products has also found the collaboration to be successful. A cooperation in which Veld acts as a trusted advisor and contributes ideas in order to arrive together at the most reliable solution at the lowest possible cost. “At SPS we like to be proactive. We are on the ball and switch quickly. That is our strength and I see the same thing at Veld. They have things in order and a lot of experience. Our partnership has therefore become very strong,” says Stefan. The project is now in full swing. Stefan: ”We are in the midst of preparations. In the summer, the project will be implemented and it should be ready at the end of the summer vacations.”

Transition to a sustainable solution

Both companies see future opportunities in their partnership. “Because of the new European legislation, there are many more hospitals that have to make the transition to a sustainable cooling system,” Stefan says. Eventually, the use of chemical refrigerants will be banned. Pascal: “The dot on the horizon is that from 2030 only natural refrigerants will be used. Together we think of solutions that help the customer in all aspects. At the front, but also in terms of service at the back. We take them through the whole story.”
